Dr Akinsola Sunday Aina is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with interest in anterior segment subspeciality. Presently a Senior lecturer with Bowen University Iwo and a honorary consultant with Bowen University Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso. He graduated from Ladoke Akintola University Of technology in the year 2003 where he obtained his MBBS degree. He had his ophthalmology residency training programme at the University College Hospital Ibadan and obtained the fellowship of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Ophthalmology (FMCOph) and Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in year 2015 and 2016 respectively. Dr Aina’s interest in academics and research made him to enroll for a Master’s programme in the University of Ibadan where he obtained Msc. Ophthalmology (one of the pioneer set) in year 2017. In his desire to improve both his academics and clinical skills, he applied and won a scholarship from the International Council of Ophthalmology and was sponsored for a short-term fellowship training in Cornea and External disease at the prestigious LV Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad, India in 2018 where he learnt various surgical skills.
Dr Aina is the pioneer researcher in the use of Focometer (an instrument used in assessing refractive error ) in Nigeria, this gave him the opportunity to win the Lions Clubs International Foundation Sightfirst research grant award in the year 2017. Dr Aina has attended various local and international scientific conferences and has publications in peer reviewed journals.
