AWOTUNDE Olufemi Timothy, PhD

Biography

Dr O. T Awotunde is a consultant Family Physician and fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical
College of Nigeria. He obtained his first degree at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1995. He became
a member of the West African College of Physicians in 2002 and was awarded fellowship of the National
Postgraduate College in 2004.
In 2005, he joined the workforce of the Baptist Medical Centre Ogbomoso which was upgraded to
Bowen University Teaching Ogbomoso. He works at the Bowen University Teaching Hospital as a
frontline General Practitioner with a special interest in Maternal Health and gynaecologic care. His duties
include training of resident doctors in Family Medicine and supervision of dissertations and casebook
presentations. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences of the College of health
Sciences, Bowen University, Iwo. In addition, he is an examiner of the Faculty of Family medicine,
National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
As a Family Physician, he demonstrates skills in holistic medical care provision, coordination of care,
management of health resources, advocacy for improved health and research. Again, by virtue of his
training, he practises Lifestyle Medicine, Generational Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Sports and Travel
medicine. Furthermore, he is a certified provider of Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics and Basic Life
Support. He also demonstrates skills in both diagnostic and therapeutic gynaecologic laparoscopy. He
has exposure and some experience in basic urogynaecologic surgery.
As a researcher, Dr Awotunde has published 34 articles in peer reviewed journals both local and
international. Some of these articles have been presented at Conferences within the shores of Nigeria.
Through research, he has contributed to the body of knowledge locally and internationally and
promoted the image of Bowen University.
He has undergone formal and informal Leadership and Management courses which have enabled him
hold various leadership positions both within and outside the hospital setting spanning over 15 years.
Consequently, he has won prestigious service awards. Currently, he serves as the Senior Assistant
Provost/ Acting Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences.
Dr O.T Awotunde is happily married with children. He loves reading, listening to gospel music and
cycling.
