Biography

Dr. Olasunmbo A. AJAYI obtained her B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Missouri, USA in 1986 and later obtained her M.Sc. and Ph.D in 2007 and 2010 in Food Science respectively from Alabama A & M University, USA. She joined Bowen University in the year 2011 and is a member of American Society of Microbiology (ASM) and Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST).

Olasunmbo expertise is in food microbiology/food safety, immunology and food biotechnology. The thrust of her work has been about public health, food safety and foodborne diseases particularly the pathogens isolated and reported during foodborne outbreaks and the less reported foodborne pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus. Reducing foodborne pathogens and the incidence of foodborne disease is essential in our community and this is achievable by ensuring that foods are free or have reduced levels of pathogens by applying safe food handling methods, inspection, surveillance and monitoring of all food handlers. To date, Dr. Ajayi has supervised twenty undergraduate student projects and one postgraduate diploma student. She has presented in local and international conferences. In

collaboration with other scientists has published twenty-three articles in various national and

international journals.
